It all began in October 2018, in the city of Douala, Cameroon. A heart-wrenching phone call came from a mother, whose son suffered a seizure. She was overwhelmed with panic and attempted actions that unfortunately resulted in further harm, costing the child his life. This tragic loss shed light on the dire need for First Aid knowledge and CPR skills within the community.

Determined to prevent similar tragedies, the “Every Second Counts” program was launched on October 13, 2018. This initiative aimed to equip parents, youths, and children with essential life-saving skills, creating awareness and empowering communities to respond effectively during emergencies. The first year witnessed remarkable progress, with home visits and hands-on training sessions becoming widespread practices. Awareness campaigns swept through cities in Cameroon, spreading hope and lifesaving knowledge.

Cameroon’s challenges in accessing healthcare and emergency response inspired the program to bring vital tools directly to the people through practical training and digital platforms. These efforts have bridged gaps, allowing civilians to take timely and effective action when the need arises.

What began as a modest effort has evolved into a movement that has touched thousands of lives. From the first outreach effort to the countless lives impacted today, the journey exemplifies resilience, hope, and dedication. Together, we stand as brothers’ keepers, fostering a community determined to eradicate preventable deaths.
