The Question: If you happen to witness a family member, friend, or neighbor in an emergency state, would you know what to do? Did you know over 85% of Cameroonians don’t know what Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is or how to administer FIRST AID? Although some Cameroonians might recognize the signs of a heart attack or other life-threatening emergencies, fewer than half have the skills needed to help.
Today, ignorance has turned us into helpless bystanders, more focused on taking live pictures and videos of accident scenes for social media than administering help.
In response, HAPPY MOTHER HAPPY CHILD Organization has embarked on a nationwide First Aid and CPR public awareness campaign under the theme “Every Second Counts”. This campaign began in Douala on October 13, 2018, and covers four regions of Cameroon. So far, it has reached three regions (Littoral, Central, and Northwest) and engaged about 1,000 people, including the deaf and dumb, thanks to volunteer translators who ensured full program understanding.
This campaign promotes inclusive change and strives to make every individual, regardless of ability, a life saver. HMHC collaborates with renowned medical doctors, certified First Aid trainers, and partner organizations like SHEMKA FOUNDATION in Yaounde (Central Region) and Girls Allowed In Bamenda (Littoral Region).
Our goal is to educate, empower, train, and equip youths, parents, children, and people with disabilities with essential First Aid and CPR skills, demonstrating how they can save lives during emergencies. By December, the campaign will conclude, followed by a full training program starting in January 2019, running for five months across four regions.
We believe every trained individual contributes to safer families, work environments, and communities. HMHC aims to reduce preventable deaths and mortality rates in Cameroon by 40% by 2020.
